Artist's Statement

We are only passing through. I’ve come to believe it — and it drives me to look carefully at what’s here. Photography is how I push back against the flatness of life. My insistence that this person, this scene, this light — are worthy of attention.

I carry my camera most days. When something stops me — a face, the way someone inhabits a moment — there’s an urgency to it, and a question: do I intrude, or does the moment demand otherwise? I’ve learned there is no fixed answer — the judgment is the work.

When someone agrees to collaborate, what follows is a genuine encounter — unhurried, attentive, between two people willing to be present in the moment. That’s not nothing. We live in a time that makes it too easy to look right past each other. I’d rather stop and engage.
